Alpharetta police Tuesday were trying to unravel the circumstances behind an overnight shooting that left a teenager nursing a gunshot wound to the arm.
The incident happened around midnight Monday on Wedgewood Drive, according to police spokesman George Gordon.
Gordon said the 17-year-old victim initially told police that he and three other males were sitting in a Nissan in the cul-de-sac at the end of the street when a white truck pulled up and someone in the truck randomly opened fire with a handgun.
"His buddies took him to the hospital prior to officer arrival on scene," Gordon said in a statement early Tuesday. The teen was in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the arm.
Gordon said police recovered three shell casings on the roadway.
He said that police had not yet confirmed the teen's version of what happened.
Gordon later told the AJC in an e-mail that the details released earlier "are not completely accurate."
Two neighbors interviewed by WSB-TV told the station that they did not see or hear any vehicles fleeing the scene after the shooting.
